What is a Land Rover Santana?
A Land Rover Santana is a Land Rover produced in Spain under licence in the form of original Brithish CKD kits (Completely Knocked Down kits).
These kits were shipped from the factory in Solihull to Spain and the Land Rovers were built up from these kits at the Santana Factory in Spain.
CKD kits were used because of international tax reasons.
The Santana Motor Company in Santa Anna in the south of Spain produced Land Rovers from 1958 till 1994.
Many in Spain produced Land Rovers were built for the Central and South American market, the African market and the Far East market.
Till 1983 there are almost NO differences between a Land Rover produced in Solihull and one produced in Spain.
From 1983 on the factory in Spain made some small modernisations like anatomic seats, bigger rear lights, disc brakes, power steering, coil springs, turbo engines.
These changes were a solution to common problems but was also a degree of the British originality.
